From Hot Start to Hot Music

Alfredo Pinto belongs to the first generation of Hot Music, the San Félix miniteca already documented in the MiniTK Archive (collection “Minitecas: Mobile Power”). Before that name, Pinto was the owner of his own crew: Hot Start, which in 1980 merged with Musique —the Yépez brothers' miniteca— to give birth to Hot Music.

The direct testimony collected by the CMTK Archive confirms that founding merger (Hot Start + Musique = Hot Music, 1980), which matches what is published in the Archive's own Hot Music entry. Spelling note: the portfolio article records the name of Pinto's crew as “Hot Star”; the testimony gives it as “Hot Start”. Both sources refer to the same crew; the exact spelling remains to be settled with period documentation.

The man in charge of the sound

After the merger, Pinto stayed on at Hot Music until the end of the eighties as the crew's man in charge of the sound. The testimony portrays him precisely: “without being a trained professional, a virtuoso in this area” — the classic profile of the hidden technical figure, trained in practice and not in the classroom, who night after night sustained the power for which Hot Music was christened “La Number One”.

The Hot Music entry adds that, today, Pinto and other founders remain in fields outside entertainment. His miniteca years were thus confined to the crew's founding decade.
