From Disconection to La Máquina

Simón de Abreu created the miniteca Disconection in Valencia — in 1983 according to La Revista de las Minitecas; between 1980 and 1981, together with Oswaldo González, according to the crew's own Facebook page, which also records its discjockeys Ricardo Núñez and Enrique “Coleman.” Around 1987, according to the account, while talking over a new image for the crew, Disconection was transformed into La Máquina —known in the miniteca world as “la demoledora de bestias”, the demolisher of beasts—, one of the most feared crews in the sound clashes.

A roster of professional discjockeys passed through its ranks from the very beginning. De Abreu is the hidden figure behind that brand: the owner and sound man who held the crew up across its two stages.

Reinventing a crew under a new name —without losing its people or its direction— is an owner's decision, not a stage one.
