A miniteca of unmistakable graphic identity: a gorilla at the microphone as its emblem, repeated on the signs of its booth and painted on the sides of its two trucks. Its era, origin and trajectory are in the process of being documented.

In search of the sound of La Cuadra

What its pieces show

Of La Cuadra we keep three pieces that speak of a miniteca put together with craft. The first is its booth: a front lined with two rows of colored lights and, at the center and at the sides, the signs lettered “La Cuadra · Sonido Profesional” with the emblem of the house — a gorilla in headphones singing into the microphone. Behind the turntables its full crew poses.

The other two are of its transport: a Ford truck with the sign “Miniteca La Cuadra” mounted above the cab, and a box truck with the gorilla painted at large scale on the side. Both carry the same license plate, A19AC2N, so this is either the same vehicle photographed head-on and in profile, or two units registered under a single plate: a detail its people will be able to clarify.

The gorilla emblem is the thread that ties the three pieces together —signs, box truck and logo— and confirms that the brand looked after its visual identity as carefully as its sound.

State of the research

We are seeking to confirm its era, its city, its founders, its discjockeys (now DJ), its equipment and its trajectory. None of the pieces we keep carries a printed date and we have not located an independent source that dates its activity, so we do not attribute a decade to it until it can be verified.
