Scala Musical

The booth with the two blue stripes

A miniteca documented in the archive of La Revista de las Minitecas, active in the 1980s: one of the people portrayed in its booth is wearing the “USA 1984” T-shirt. Its origin and trajectory are in the process of being documented.

Who they were

Scala Musical appears in the photographic archive of La Revista de las Minitecas with a recognizable rig: a white booth crossed by two blue stripes and lettered “SCALA MUSICAL,” crowned by light bars and mirror effects. In another of its photographs the booth appears lettered in stencil type on a white background, a sign that the crew changed its image at some point along the way.

Its activity is placed in the 1980s, and at least up to 1984: in the booth they worked in the commemorative T-shirt of the Los Angeles Olympic Games of that year.

State of the research

Still to be confirmed are its city, its founders, its discjockeys (now DJ), its equipment and its full trajectory. The crew keeps an active Instagram account (@miniteca_scalamusical, “Discplay”), which we have not been able to cross-check against the stage documented in these photographs. If you belonged to Scala Musical or keep material from the period —photos, flyers, tips or audio—, help us complete this entry through the contact form.
