If there was ever anyone who never needed an introduction, it was Iván Loscher. Just naming him called up a deep, recognizable, unmistakable voice that marked generations of listeners in Venezuela and Latin America. A writer, an announcer, a voracious reader and an inveterate music lover, Loscher also owned a humor all his own and an authenticity that turned him into a legend.

His beginnings

Born in Caracas on January 24, 1937, to a Dutch father and an Arab mother, his personality already stood out in his youth. At barely 21 he began his career in radio, with a personal style of his own: checked shirts, jeans and Converse with colored laces. His passion for music made him a cultural point of reference of his time.

A career in radio and television

With more than 50 years in the media, Iván was part of stations such as Radio Capital, La Mega and Circuito Éxitos, all belonging to Grupo Unión Radio. His voice became a hallmark of credibility, warmth and style, which allowed him to cross borders.

Beyond radio, he ventured into writing with titles such as “Ella era tan bella que levantaba sospechas” and “Problemas actuales y el narcisismo en Internet,” besides taking part in numerous collective publications. His work combined humor, reflection and a critical view of contemporary society.

The voice of the minitecas

Within the Venezuelan miniteca movement, Iván Loscher also left his mark as a voice over. His unmistakable timbre was used in promos, jingles and presentations for legendary minitecas, reinforcing the connection between formal radio and urban youth culture. His involvement helped give legitimacy and reach to a phenomenon that went beyond music to become a generational identity.

Music lover and unique style

His career was marked by his devotion to bands such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Queen, though he also enjoyed salsa and Latin rhythms thanks to the influence of his friend César Miguel Rondón. His versatility and his command of English, with British, Australian and North American accents, gave him a range rare in the field.

His final years

At the end of 2014 he suffered several strokes that affected his health, but they never dimmed the admiration or the respect of his colleagues and listeners. His death marked the end of a golden age of Venezuelan announcing.
