His role at 1900 My Way

Alberto Añez is the voice of the club 1900 My Way in the press of the era: the city club at the Centro Ciudad Comercial Tamanaco in Caracas, with private lounges, gaming and reading rooms, a discotheque, a piano bar, banquet halls and two restaurants, which has an entry of its own in the Legendary Discotheques collection of this Archive.

His is the definition of the project that made it into print: “This is a club for the new Venezuela, for new professionals with very definite needs and a vision of the future.” What converged there, he explained, was a group of people with common interests and one particular aim: to make friends.

The man who brought the stars

The musical shows were one of the club's hallmarks, and it was Añez who set about contacting the biggest figures in song so that they would perform there, before the members, in a far more intimate format than a theater's.

Of the labels the club earned for its luxury and its character, “la catedral de la amistad” —the cathedral of friendship— was the one he recalled with particular emotion. The most repeated one, however, was another: “el club más bello del mundo”, the most beautiful club in the world.

What remains to be documented

His exact position within the club is not on record —whether he was its founder, its president or its manager—, nor the years he was at its head, nor his career before and after 1900 My Way. His full name remains to be confirmed.
