The venue

The Gimnasio Cubierto Luis “Lumumba” Estaba is a sports facility in Puerto La Cruz, in the Sotillo municipality of Anzoátegui state. It owes its name to the former Venezuelan boxer Luis Alberto “Lumumba” Estaba, world light-flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) between 1975 and 1977. The venue remains active as a sports center and was reopened after a refurbishment in 2025.

Note on the spelling (external correction)

The magazine writes “Lubumba”; the correct spelling of the venue and of the boxer who gives it its name is “Lumumba”, confirmed by multiple independent sources. The correct form is adopted and set down as a note.
