A voice from the east

César Cotorap was a composer, rapper and stage MC born in Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui state. Unlike most of the figures in this collection, his trade was not that of a booth discjockey but that of an MC: the voice that fired up the crowd from the stage. He is included in “One Mixshow, One Name” by editorial decision, and that nuance is put on record so his role is not confused.

His charisma made him one of the greats of the movement. The miniteca Caribbean “La Doble CC”, from his own Puerto La Cruz, remembers him publicly as “the best MC of his time”.

“La Cucaracha”

The song most associated with him was “La Cucaracha”, cheered every time he stepped onto the stage. The magazine also holds that the piece was later performed by the band Mermelada Bunch; that link could not be verified in external sources. There is a song titled “La Cucaracha” by Mermelada Bunch (registered around 2018), but it is presented as an independent comic number and no evidence was found that it derives from Cotorap's stage song. The point is left open, taken neither as true nor as false.

A national career

Cotorap left his mark on countless events the length and breadth of the country, and even crossed the border into Colombian cities such as Cúcuta, from the 80s until his last breath. A humble, plain and deeply charismatic man, he earned the recognition of the trade and of the public of eastern Venezuela.

Legacy

César Cotorap died in 2009. He left a son, a granddaughter, four sisters and many nephews and nieces, and the memory of the man many consider the best MC in the east and in the whole country. This entry is, above all, a tribute: a sober attempt to fix his name in the memory of the miniteca movement, awaiting more material and testimony that would allow it to grow with the respect it deserves.

· His role as an MC and his roots in Puerto La Cruz are independently corroborated by the miniteca Caribbean “La Doble CC”, which pays public tribute to him on its official Facebook as “the best MC of his time”.
· Unconfirmed lead: there is an artist on Apple Music labeled “cesar coto rap” (with a track “La Cucaracha”), but its catalog includes a 2022 release, later than 2009, so it is not assumed to correspond to this person.
· Under documentary verification: the dates of birth (1962) and death (2009), the performance of “La Cucaracha” by Mermelada Bunch and the specific events around the country and in Cúcuta.
