The man behind Supervolumen

Fiorenzo Iannarella was the founder and owner of the miniteca Supervolumen, one of the mobile discotheques that competed in the founding milestone of the movement: the first Guerra de Minitecas in Venezuela —the sound clashes of the movement—, held on Sunday, July 1, 1979 at the Poliedro de Caracas. Under his direction, Supervolumen took third place that night —with a prize of 1,000 bolívares—, behind Crazy Full (first place) and Explosión (second).

On a day that shortlisted some 60 minitecas and brought eight finalists to the stage, reaching the podium meant being written into the history of the trade. Supervolumen managed it with a set that was powerful and daring for its time, earning the respect of the judges and of the crowd at the debut of the format that would define Venezuelan youth rumba for the two decades that followed.

Style and trade

As the man in charge of a miniteca in the late 70s, Iannarella embodied the figure of the discjockey-entrepreneur: the owner who at the same time ran the sound, built the cabinet, selected the music and stood face to face with the competition. Supervolumen is remembered for its sonic drive and its stage presence, traits that made it a benchmark of those founding years even though it never reached the profile of other houses of the period.
