Sonorodven, “The Drop” and the minitecas

Sonorodven —a Caracas company linked to the Grupo Cisneros— was the label that released the compilations “Dancing in The Drop” (1986) and “Dancing in The Drop Strikes Again”, tied to the miniteca The Drop in eastern Caracas. Those records brought the sound and the effects of the miniteca into people's homes, with tracks such as the one from “La Historia Sin Fin” and “Body Rock”. The magazine places Cassella —as an executive of Sonorodven— within the machinery that backed those productions.

A note on the spelling

La Revista de las Minitecas alternates between “Cazella” and “Casella”. External verification in current Venezuelan media (Vida y Arte, Informe21) and in his own accounts confirms that the correct spelling is Enzo Cassella (double “s”, of Italian descent). We adopt “Cassella” in the prose; the route of this entry keeps the source's spelling for continuity.

Documentary clarifications

Two claims from the base source call for qualification, so as not to state more than is known:

• · He was not “the discjockey” of the records. His documented role at Sonorodven was one of promotion and executive direction, not that of a discjockey (now DJ). A community compilation (“Minitecas de los 80 y 90 y sus DJ”) attributes the musical selection of the “Dancing in The Drop” records to the discjockey Carlos Tespio — a single-source item, still to be corroborated.
• · The ownership of “EMI Music” is not corroborated. The claim that Cassella went on to be the owner of EMI Music comes from the same community compilation and does not appear in any of the independent biographies consulted, which place him in radio (Circuito FM Center) from 1997 onward. It is declared unverified.

Legacy

Cassella belongs to the generation of executives who professionalized Venezuelan record promotion in the golden era of pop and tropical music. His name does not appear on the posters of the rumbas, but he is part of the back room of the industry that gave support —records, pressing, radio— to the miniteca phenomenon.
