In search of the sound of Anaconda

The account

Anaconda was born at the end of the 70s in the Urbanización Mendoza of Puerto Ordaz, in the state of Bolívar, at the hands of the brothers Marcos and Luis Dimas together with Rafael Osorio. So it is recorded in the first-hand account gathered by the CMTK Archive, which places it among the outfits that livened up the Guayana scene from the earliest years of the movement.

Its ground was that of private events —the booked party, the ballroom rumba—, though it also measured itself in some competitions of those years. While other Guayana minitecas built their name above all in the sound confrontations —the sound clashes that made the names of Hot Music, Hot Way or The Fashion—, Anaconda made a place for itself on the other path of the trade: that of the carefully staged event. That profile was also part of miniteca culture, even if it leaves less of a trace in the chronicles of the sound clashes.

Its booth was lettered “ANACONDA,” and it was manned by Javier Vivas, Rafael Osorio and Luis Dimas.

State of the research

The external search turned up, as of the date of consultation, no independent source on an Anaconda miniteca from Puerto Ordaz: neither in the community round-ups of the movement nor in the digital archives of the Guayana scene. The photographic archive of La Revista de las Minitecas has no folder under its name either. The entry rests on the first-hand account and on the photograph of its booth, both contributed to the Archive as a primary source, and it is declared as such.
