The beginnings

Miniteca Explosión emerges at the end of the 1970s in Caracas, at the hands of Dante Tulipano, Alejandro De Santis and Toni Zoz. In the full effervescence of disco music, these young entrepreneurs decided to give life to a project that combined sound, innovation and an authentic style, laying the foundations of what would become one of the most recognized minitecas in the country.

The first Guerra de Minitecas

Explosión reached a privileged place in history by taking second place at the Primera Guerra de Minitecas —a guerra de minitecas, the sound clashes of the movement— held on July 1, 1979 at the Poliedro de Caracas. On that occasion first place went to Crazy Full and third place to Super Volumen, while Explosión proved its technical and musical quality with a show that established it among the greats.

That second place has a document behind it: the plaque the graduating class of the Colegio San Agustín presented to it that same night credits it “for having obtained 2nd place at the Primera Guerra de Minitecas at the Poliedro de Caracas” and declares it “the 2nd best in the Capital,” dated July 1, 1979.

A precision about that piece: the plaque is headed “La Promoción XXIV Aniversario Colegio San Agustín,” while the poster for the event and the plaque presented that night to Soul Discotheque speak of the Promoción XXV Aniversario (1953-54 / 1978-79). They are period documents that do not agree with each other; both are recorded without being unified.

Record production

That same year, Explosión reached a milestone by recording its first vinyl, titled “Disco Explosion – Non Stop” (1979), released on the Philips label and mixed by Alejandro De Santis and Dante Tulipano. This production not only reflected the crew's technical capacity; it also became a historical document of Venezuelan musical culture, with a reference registered on Discogs.

Style and legacy

Explosión was recognized for its sonic power, for a selection of tracks that mixed the international cutting edge with local talent, and for a staging that broke with the standards of the period. Its participation at the Poliedro and its venture into the record industry made it one of the pioneering minitecas, leaving a legacy that is still remembered in the movement today.
