Who was behind it
White Point was the miniteca of Arnaldo Verweij, from Montalbán, in the southwest of Caracas. The crew was his and so were the turntables: at the Tercera Guerra del Poliedro he is listed as its discjockey, so the owner was also the one mixing.
Montalbán is a neighborhood in the southwest of Caracas, in the parish of La Vega: a residential area, with no famous discotheques and no nightlife circuit of its own. Out of it came a miniteca capable of finishing ahead of every other one in the country but one.
Arnaldo Verweij died around 2022, according to the testimony of those who knew him.
The second place of 1980
White Point competed at the Tercera Guerra del Poliedro on 15 February 1980 — the one advertised as “buscando la mejor miniteca de Venezuela,” sponsored by Caracas 750 and with Oscar D'León and La Crítica on stage — alongside Xenón, Yumbo, Erotic Soul, Oxígeno, Jungle, The Bunching and Master West.
