A discjockey from Ciudad Guayana

Behind the alias DJ Manzul is Manzul Rivas, a discjockey formed in the miniteca scene of Ciudad Guayana, Bolívar state. The CMTK Archive confirmed that they are the same person: Manzul Rivas, the discjockey who appears on the roster of the miniteca Holiday, and DJ Manzul, the name by which he is remembered in the booth.

His name is tied to Holiday, the miniteca that the brothers Leonel and Iván Rojas built in Ciudad Guayana from 1987 onward and which, small as it was at birth, ended up measuring itself against the great mobile discotheques of the country.

In the Holiday booth

Through the Holiday booth, during the 80s and 90s, passed a large group of discjockeys, and Manzul Rivas is among them alongside names such as José Juan “el Dientón”, José Luis Viches “Cheli”, Heider Hernández, Frank González “Arepa”, Iván Rojas “Peluretro”, Daniel Max, Cristian Rojas and Leonel Rojas, among others.

In those years Holiday traveled the towns and cities from the Brazilian border to Puerto La Cruz, played the openings of nightspots and fought in the sound clashes of the region. That was the setting in which DJ Manzul moved.

Traces on the circuit

Beyond Holiday, the documentable trace of DJ Manzul is thin but real. A recording circulating on YouTube credits a “DJ Manzul” with a changa and reguetón set put together around 2003 for the miniteca Caribbean —alongside DJ Jhon and DJ Adonis—, which would point to a discjockey still active in the 2000s and in step with the turn of the miniteca sound toward changa. There is, however, no confirmation that this “DJ Manzul” of Caribbean is the same Manzul Rivas of Holiday: the alias is short and could belong to another discjockey. It is left as a lead, not as a fact.

What is still to be documented

As this entry closes there is no independent external source reconstructing the full career of DJ Manzul: there is no date of birth on record, no full name confirmed beyond “Manzul Rivas”, and no clear record of other minitecas he may have passed through or of his current activity. The entry is published in development, awaiting more archive material and testimony that would allow it to grow without assuming.
