Beginnings: when being a discjockey meant building a culture

Born in Caracas, Frank Escalona began his career as a professional discjockey (now DJ) in 1978, at a time when the figure of the discjockey was beginning to turn into a protagonist of nightlife entertainment. His passion for music led him to master the genres that defined anglo club culture: Funky, Disco Music, Hi-NRG, House, Breakdance, Garage, New Wave, Italo Disco, Acid House, Freestyle and Euro Beat, among many others.

The club circuit: the capital's resident discjockey

Frank was resident discjockey at the most important venues in Caracas: Blow Up (1978), The Mountain Disco (1978), Beautiful Night (1979), Le Baron (1980), Studio 84 (1980) and finally the Ice Palace Club in Altamira (1981), where he would begin his most influential legacy.

Ice Palace: the musical empire

Between 1981 and 1986, Frank Escalona became the musical heart of the Ice Palace, an open-mind anglo discotheque known for its powerful sound, its impeccable acoustic pressure and programming on a par with the USA and Europe. His up-to-date mixing style and refined technique positioned him as an icon of the Venezuelan dance floor.

His influence was so deep that when the venue evolved into Tiffanys Club (1997–2001), Frank continued as resident DJ for the same target audience. In all, his tenure as the venue's lead DJ ran to 23 years, a record in the history of national clubbing.

Awards and professional mark

In 1982 he took part in the Match de Disc-Jockeys at the Poliedro de Caracas, organized by RPM Records, taking first place in his category. In 1999 he won the Premio Perro Verde of the magazine Urbe as Best DJ in the Capital, an award from the public and his colleagues.

He also worked as a music promoter and distributor for Total Music Distributors, EMI Music, Sony Music and Universal Records. He was musical adviser on the record Hot Tracks (EMI, 1999), which achieved high sales.

Beyond the booth: fashion, production and media

Frank provided the music for fashion events by Duránt & Diego (2000), Miss Teen Global (2002) and the designer Luis Perdomo (2009). He also moved into event production, graphic and audiovisual design and software and PC maintenance, showing professional versatility.

Still current, still evolving

Today, as a freelance DJ under the Advanced Music label, he plays private events and clubs around the country, mixing electronica, house, tech, progressive and tribal with the same precision as ever. He also appears on online stations with live sessions of music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.

His next goal: to produce his own music and remixes, taking his name to a new generation.

Legacy

Frank Escalona was not only a resident discjockey: he was a music curator, a sound innovator and a driving force of the club scene in Caracas. His time at the Ice Palace defined an era, and his influence is felt on every dance floor that values mixing as an art.
