The discjockey of “La Generación Halley”

“La Generación Halley” (1986), directed by Thaelman Urgellés and produced by Bolívar Films with a screenplay by Diana Lichy and Urgellés himself, took the young Venezuelans of the eighties to the cinema: the conflicts of a generation that lived for music, with a soundtrack by Karina, Melissa, Guillermo Dávila, Frank Quintero, Pablo Manavello and Aguilar. The CMTK Archive identifies Ronald Pacheco as the discjockey who appears in the film.

The fact matters beyond the anecdote: the booth was the center of an entire generation's party, and this is one of its few documented appearances in the Venezuelan cinema of the period.

Still in the booth

Four decades after that film, Ronald Pacheco goes on mixing under the same brand: he can be seen behind the console lettered The Drop, with a giant screen, moving heads and the cabinet in the foreground. Of the figures of his generation, he is one of those who never left the decks.

Note: the entry for The Drop itself states that no organic continuity between the retro revival (from 2005) and the direct line of the original founders of 1982 has been documentarily confirmed. That Ronald Pacheco appears as the owner of “The Drop C.A.” corroborates his role in the retro stage, but it does not settle that continuity, which remains undocumented.
