Origin

In mid-October 1982 a miniteca is born in Caracas, set on breaking with the patterns already established. A group of young people wanted to make themselves noticed in the competitive world of the minitecas without copying anyone else's style: they started out with private parties for relatives and at their places of study, where the strong response of the crowd soon became evident — along with the annoyance of some in the business, who did not hesitate to take them on.

Sound, music and lighting

According to its own account, Winner came through those confrontations unscathed on the three fronts that defined a miniteca: sound, music and lighting. The last of these was in the hands of Jhonny Rincón, better known as “Jhonny Winner”.

Clients and shared stages

Over the years they made a name for themselves and took on major clients: Banco Latino, El Universal, Malibú Café, Iguana Café, Empresas Polar, the Hotel Lincoln Suites, the Hotel Hilton and Recrea Entertainment C.A., besides numerous well-known party agencies. Their tips, or jingles, were recorded by the most important announcers of the era: Carlos Eduardo Ball, Enrique Hoffman, Jesús Leandro and Waldemaro Martínez.

They shared the stage with the most talked-about singers of the moment — Billo's, Los Melódicos, Miguel Molly, Roberto Antonio — and with renowned minitecas such as Sifriteca, Satélite (from Miranda state), Fuerza Felina, Discproyección and Caribbean, among others.

Setbacks, rebuilding and recognition

Years later they suffered a very hard blow: they were robbed at a venue and the rack and part of the lighting were taken; the rest was saved by its sheer weight. Once past the setback, they worked from scratch to recover the equipment, playing from venue to venue until they built a new launching pad with school fairs, high-school graduation fundraisers, corporate events and university bailoterapias.

They took first place in the Copa Maltín Polar among the best-received minitecas of the Distrito Capital, and they were winners of the Coco Frío and La Hielera miniteca cups and of the Copa Faylán de Oro as the miniteca with the best career over its 25 years.

Legacy

Its own account acknowledges that the activity dropped off sharply because of insecurity and because of the sheer number of minitecas that kept appearing. Even so, Winner defines itself without hedging: “we were, we are and we will go on being the megateca that turns your weekend into a great adventure”.
