The country's second great arena

If the Poliedro de Caracas was the movement's greatest temple, the magazine places the Copas Alpine of Maracay as the second biggest gathering of minitecas of the era. They were held at the Pabellón de Ferias de San Jacinto (Parque de Ferias San Jacinto), in Maracay, Aragua state, and drew the finest crews of the country's central region to days of sound, lights and electronic show.

What is on record about one edition

Concrete record survives of one of its editions: the “2da Copa Alpine,” presented by Tony Escobar with his electronic show, brought together the best minitecas of the central region at the Pabellón de Ferias de San Jacinto, with admission at Bs. 100. The account places that second edition around 1989. The name of the event points back to the sponsorship of the Alpine brand (audio), a habitual practice of the circuit, where sound brands backed gatherings and prizes.

The Pabellón de San Jacinto was, moreover, a recurring setting for Guerras de Minitecas — the sound clashes of the movement — of the central region —face-offs between crews such as Infierno and ZC are remembered—, which confirms the venue as a stronghold of the movement in Aragua.

Why it matters

The Copas Alpine decentralize the story: they show that the miniteca phenomenon was not only a Caracas one, but that it had a first-rank pole in the central axis (Maracay–Valencia). Documenting them helps to map the real geography of the movement.
