A voice of more than six decades
Porfirio Torres (San Juan de los Morros, September 21, 1940 — Porlamar, October 13, 2021) was one of the most celebrated announcers in Venezuela: the unmistakable voice of the radio program “Nuestro Insólito Universo.” He was a booth announcer at Radio Capital, the star voice of Radiodifusora de Venezuela and a prolific commercial announcer who recorded spots for radio and television over more than six decades. For his career he received the Premio Nacional de Cultura (2019) and the Premio Aquiles Nazoa (2020).
His voice in the minitecas
That same voice served miniteca culture. “La Revista de las Minitecas” (DJ Vladimir Medina edition) cites him among the official voices that gave the minitecas their sound identity: he appears as one of the voices of Miniteca The Rainbow, alongside Enrique Hoffman, Waldemaro Martínez and Iván Loscher. In those years, the voice of a professional announcer on the presentation spot — the jingle that opened every rumba — was part of a miniteca's prestige: it identified the brand before the first track played.
