Who they were
The idea was born in 1984: three young high-school students set out to create “a different sound.” In 1986 the crew struck the Caracas public with the Kremesa Kriptón — “the only light of its kind in Venezuela,” as its own jingles announced it, and which the crowd nicknamed “La Araña” — and in less than two years it made its name as a miniteca with a style of its own. Along the way it earned the backing of Sonorodven, “los líderes,” and of Radio Tropical 990 AM, and its shows were announced by the voice of Enrique Hoffman. It shared the stage with Karina several times — so many that a lot of people took the singer for the miniteca's owner; the relationship was one of colleagues on stage. The founding chronicle of the movement counts it among the minitecas “of great renown” that emerged after Gipsy, and it competed in the guerras de minitecas —the sound clashes— of the Poliedro de Caracas alongside greats such as Fahrenheit, Ambitus, Stereoteka and The Drop.
