The story
DJ Amílcar Pino is remembered as one of the protagonists of the miniteca scene of Ciudad Guayana in the 80s. His name became tied to the Miniteca Saxon, where he was lead discjockey (now DJ) and a key piece in the consolidation of that project born in Puerto Ordaz. His style, marked by precision in the mixes and a musical selection oriented toward heavy rhythms, became Saxon's identity and a hallmark for those who enjoyed his shows.
One of the most significant milestones of his career came when Saxon represented Guayana at the Guerras de Minitecas —the sound clashes of the movement— at the Poliedro de Caracas, in the middle of the 80s. At that event the miniteca took a historic third place, something unheard of for a crew from the interior of the country in the capital, cradle of the great names of the movement. That showing made it clear that talent and innovation were not limited to Caracas, and it positioned Amílcar as a discjockey able to measure up to the best in the country.
