From a music-loving home to the birth of Prince
Born into a house where a love of music was an everyday matter, Ángel learned to listen with the curiosity of a discjockey (now DJ): while others danced, he watched the craft behind the booth. In the early 80s, in Montalbán, he put together a homemade miniteca with friends; in 1981 he founded Prince —with domestic equipment— and began playing at birthdays and at the neighborhood Olympics. That path crossed with ZC, beginning a road that would change the staging of the minitecas.
ZC: innovation, sonic identity and the nickname
Guided by Luis Atilio and Pier, Ángel joined ZC —from the private module to module I— and his hallmark was born: “El DJ del Control Total.” ZC broke the mold with a low cabinet (the audience could see all four turntables), lighting scaffolds that embraced the dance floor, controllers of its own making and, above all, the Roland sampler to fire off jingles and effects live: the identity was performed, not played back.

Tours, sound clashes and a high-impact show
With ZC they toured Venezuela and Curaçao, measuring themselves against Sandy Lane, Betelgeuse, New York New York, Infierno, La Maquina, among many others. Ángel pushed talent forward: he introduced Patricia Carles (15), considered the first woman discjockey in Venezuela, and his brother DJ Alfredito (12), the youngest discjockey in the country. In 1986 they won the Frailejón de Oro (Best DJ, Sound, Lighting and Miniteca) and shared the stage with top-level artists and orchestras.
Influence, stages and awards
His career goes beyond the miniteca circuit: he has shared the stage with national and international figures such as David Bisbal, Ricardo Arjona, Los del Río, Olga Tañón, Carlos Vives, Julio Iglesias, B-52's, Armando Manzanero, Gipsy Kings, Emmanuel, Oscar D'León, Billo's Caracas Boys, Los Melódicos, C4 Trío, Los Hermanos Rodríguez, El Pollo Brito, Guaco, Frank Quintero, Huáscar Barradas, Porfi Jiménez, Kiara, Karina, Yordano, Flans, Wilfrido Vargas, Las Chicas del Can, Trino Mora, Ivo, Rudy Márquez, Reinaldo Armas, Luis Silva, Simón Díaz and José Luis Rodríguez, among others.
For his career and his contributions he has received distinctions such as the Frailejón de Oro, Mara Internacional (Platinum version), Emperador Internacional, Gigantes Award and Líder Internacional. From academic retirement to rebirth
In 1988 he retired to finish university. He returned in 1997 with his company Matt Music, C.A. (events and private parties). Years later he came back to the scene as a guest of ZC under new management and took part in the Guerra de Minitecas in Guarenas, where he received a special award on October 14, 2023. In that setting a summary of a tribute to his legacy was heard:

From DJ College to Angel Matt Academy
The wish to teach in an organized, professional way crystallized first as DJ College (UNIMET) and later as Angel Matt Academy in Santa Mónica (Caracas). Its claim —Hacemos Música / Movemos Personas— sums up purpose and method. Ángel is certified with a teaching component by the UCV and has trained generations in DJing and production, with teachers who graduated from the academy itself. There, booth experience is systematized into a curriculum that combines technical precision, musical judgment and professional ethics.
International image and technology
Ángel is an artist and the image of the German brand Reloop —designer and manufacturer of equipment for DJs and producers— and is named as the first and only Latin American with that distinction. Besides his work as a performer, he leads workshops and masterclasses and produces events through his own company, staying current in a circuit where history and innovation speak to each other at every show.
40+ years of career: legacy and currency
With more than 40 years on the scene, Ángel Matt is part of the DNA of Venezuelan DJ culture: a pioneer of the performed sonic identity, a driving force for generations and a bridge between the era of the minitecas and today's professional training.
