In search of the sound of Neila Fuentes

The starting fact

“La Revista de las Minitecas” (DJ Vladimir Medina edition) enrolls Neila Fuentes among the official voices of Loboteca Flash, the miniteca whose lead discjockey (now DJ) was Javier Valera (“DJ Z”). According to the magazine, Fuentes “had a very sensual voice” and shared the miniteca's sound identity with a second, youthful announcer, Michelle Taffin: while one supplied an adult, sensual register, the other brought the fresh, teenage note.

The magazine adds a striking biographical detail: that Neila Fuentes was an opera singer and came to sing in the chorus with Pavarotti.

What the external research confirms (and what it does not)

The detail of the opera and of Pavarotti appears corroborated in the circulating document “Minitecas de los 80 y 90 y sus DJ” with wording almost identical to the magazine's — “era cantante de ópera y llegó a cantar en el coro con Pavarotti” — which suggests that both texts share an origin and do not constitute two independent testimonies. No source from the world of opera (concert programs, chorus records, music press) corroborates, for now, that a singer named Neila Fuentes took part in a chorus alongside Luciano Pavarotti.

That is why the CMTK Archive keeps the detail as an attribution of the magazine, not as an asserted fact: it is plausible — Pavarotti sang with numerous local choruses on his tours — but plausible is not confirmed. The entry remains in progress, awaiting material from the archive itself or a musical source that can vouch for her operatic career.
