From Los Chorros to the big booths

Antonio José Azócar was born in Caracas on November 26, 1971. At fifteen, in Los Chorros, a group of four friends —Abelardo, David, Jussepe and Wladimir— kept a miniteca called Weekend as a hobby; Azócar joined the group and received from the discjockey Octavio the basics: how to mix and how to handle the equipment.

By eighteen he was already a professional in discotheques and minitecas. His miniteca run includes The Lawyers, Crazy Band, New York People, Coco's and Maui, and his discotheque run adds La Jungla, Ozono Film, New York New York Club, Tribu and Disco Boom, among others.

The scratch, Maui and the Mara de Oro

On the TV show Tropa de Vacaciones (RCTV) he was a host and a pioneer of the scratch style in Venezuela. That technical hallmark, carried into the Maui booth, accompanied the miniteca to the Mara de Oro award as breakout miniteca.

He also won the first DJ elimination round of Venezuela organized by La Mega 107.3 FM, and years later taught scratch initiation in the DJ courses of the El Fusible collective, led by the announcer Armando Toledano.
