First Class

“La Elegancia en Presentaciones” — Cúcuta, since 1989

A Colombian miniteca from Cúcuta founded in 1989: it fought sound clashes in the border city's schools in the 90s, keeps a 1993 recording, and is still active today as First Class Producciones.

What is on record

First Class is a miniteca from Cúcuta, Norte de Santander, right on the border with Venezuela. The house itself sets its founding in 1989 — “your miniteca since 1989” — and its period documents back it up: an original advertisement from November 8, 1991 announces it as “La Innovación de las Minitekas” for a school event in Floridablanca, Santander — it was already working beyond its own city —, and a 90s ticket pits it against the miniteca Vibraciones Stereo in a guerra de minitecas, one of the movement's sound clashes, at the Colegio INEM of Cúcuta, in aid of the school club's swimming pool. From that era it also keeps, and publishes, a 1993 recording.
